On the run from Vannacci. They leave the top of the world in reverse. The general: "Let's move forward"

Roberto Vannacci assures that his project “is moving forward, following the path traced up to now”. But this morning the embarrassment was palpable. “It would be better to ignore the 'World in reverse' issue”, the general's staff responded. The movement that supports him, born after the editorial success, is in fact falling apart: the president and founder Fabio Filomeni, also a former soldier or a “comrade” as Vannacci himself defined him, has resigned, together with the treasurer Gianluca Priolo and the secretary Bruno Spatara.

The step back was announced yesterday evening, during a board meeting. But Vannacci and his probably did not expect to read the news this morning in Il Fatto. "Lately we have witnessed an integration with Salvini's League that brings us to neo-Atlanticist and pro-Israeli positions that do not belong to me and were not in the initial project", Filomeni then explained in a note, perhaps giving an indication of what the World in reverse could become.

Vannacci's response arrived shortly after: "I regret his resignation, I wish him the best". In his comment, via Facebook, the MEP elected with the League does not go into the merits of the reasons given by Filomeni: "I have only one word and I continue on my path that I have never hidden from anyone. The new president will be decided in the next few days. The real challenges are accepted by those who have the courage and determination to do so: those who love me follow me... but no one is obliged to do so. The Tsunami is getting bigger and bigger".

Those who attended the meeting, such as the regional president of Mondo al contrario in Lazio Fabio Macera, explained to Il Foglio that “Filomeni never spoke about the state of Israel. I learned it from the newspapers too”. As for the alignment with Salvini, Macera continued (also confirming the resignations of the treasurer and secretary), “we knew very well that Vannacci’s political home was the League. I don’t know what happened”.

The escape from the general, meanwhile, comes on the eve of a decisive step: after February 28, the Mondo al contrario committee, "which has over a thousand members, at least", will become a political-cultural association. "Inside it - says the head of Lazio - there are many former soldiers, who don't know much about politics. But that's the beauty of this group, so large and numerous, that follows Vanacci. Not professional politicians, but people who have returned to commitment after years of disenchantment". What will the new association be like? "We are waiting for the statute and regulations, in the meantime I can say that there will be a radical change: no longer a top-down structure, but horizontal and autonomous structures. There will no longer be presidents of regional committees and territorial delegates".

Whether it will become a real party, it is still too early to say. But Macera points out, "a political force supporting General Vannacci already exists, and it is 'Noi con Vannacci' of Senator Umberto Fusco" - the former member of the Northern League who had organized Vannacci's two-day event in Viterbo last September . In the meantime, many are wondering whether the general, who in recent days has argued with some members of the Northern League in view of the regional elections in Tuscany and Veneto, is not taking notes from the German experience of AfD. Could it be a model? "On many issues we are absolutely aligned, from the defense of national borders to greater control over the immigration issue, in addition to the rediscovery of the national language in the face of the continuous increase in foreign terms", explains the Lazio representative of Mondo al contrario. "Germany and Italy are very different, however. We do not hope for a new AfD, we hope for a political path that takes the Honorable Vannacci as high and as far forward as possible".

Meanwhile, this evening the general is expected in Turin for a confrontation with the communist Marco Rizzo, organized by the police union Siulp. It is not the first time that the two meet, united by the fight against political correctness. And it also happened in a theater in Rome in October, and on that occasion too there was a line to listen to them. Who knows.
